THE PRACTICE: Little People, Big Smiles!

As Pediatric Dentists, we are dedicated to the oral health of children from 1 to 21 years of age.  Our office provides a fun atmosphere in which children feel safe and comfortable.  We make children feel special because we realize that they are not all alike, with each one growing in his or her own unique way both dentally and emotionally.  We are also fully aware of the fears and anxieties associated with dentistry and strive towards alleviating them through empathy, patience and our own distinct way of providing pediatric dental care.

We believe that children become part of the cavity-free generation by taking pride in their healthy smile and responsibility for their oral hygiene from a very early age.  The first visit to the dentist may be the most important in a child's life and we have the skills and training to make that visit a positive and happy experience.

We would be honored to provide this level of care to your child.  We are accepting new patients so please call us at (251) 928-5045 to schedule an appointment. We look forward to meeting you and your children in the near future!

MISSION STATEMENT:  To provide optimal dental health care to infants, children and adolescents in a fun, comfortable atmosphere that focuses on the overall well-being of the child, and with the understanding that God designs all children with a specific purpose in mind.

NEW PATIENT PAPERWORK

For your convenience, please complete the attached paperwork and bring it to your child's first appointment.  Please note that while you need to complete only one "New Patient Information" form per family, you must complete one "Medical History" form per child. Additionally, below please find a copy of our Office Policies. We recommend that you read through these and keep a copy for your own files as you are providing your consent to all of our policies by signing the New Patient Information form.  Thank you.

PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY: AN OVERVIEW

About Pediatric Dentists

Pediatric Dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry.  Our professional education includes 4 years of dental school and 2-to-3 years of specialized study that emphasizes child psychology, growth and development.  Infants, preschoolers, children and adolescents each require a different approach to their changing behavior, ongoing dental growth and development and avoidance of future dental problems.  The Pediatric Dentist is best qualified to meet these needs.

Why Are Baby Teeth So Important?

It is critical that the primary teeth be kept healthy until they are lost naturally.  They serve several extremely important functions, including: maintaining good nutrition by permitting your child to chew properly; providing for good pronunciation and speech habits; maintaining space that will ultimately be occupied by permanent teeth; guiding the proper eruption of permanent teeth; and giving your child the self-confidence that every smiling child deserves.

When Should Your Child First See The Dentist?

The ADA recommends that your child's first visit to the dentist be either 6-months within the eruption of the first tooth or when your child turns 12-months of age, whichever occurs first.  At this first visit, we will examine your child's teeth and gums, checking for decay and evaluating the effects of oral habits (thumbsucking and pacifier use, for example).  Your child's teeth will be professionally cleaned and topical fluoride will be applied to aid in cavity prevention.  Most importantly, however, you will learn how to properly clean and care for your child's teeth.

Please see the October 2006 issue of Parents magazine, page 150, for additional, helpful information about children and their oral hygiene.
